How the Top 10 is ranked

Every platform gets four whole-number marks from 1 to 10. The overall score is the simple average of those four, rounded to one decimal place, and the leaderboard is sorted from highest to lowest.

The four criteria

1. Library. How wide and deep the selection of games is.
2. Fair terms. What you actually keep, how refunds or free access work, and how clear the rules are.
3. Easy start. How quickly a newcomer gets from the homepage to playing something.
4. Players & makers. Reviews, forums, mods, jams and other ways people take part.

What we look at

We use each service as an ordinary visitor would: browsing the catalogue, opening several games, reading the published refund or ownership rules, and checking what is possible with and without an account. We rely on information the platforms publish themselves.

What we leave out

We do not estimate audience sizes, publish traffic figures or quote testimonials. Nothing on this site involves betting or real-money play, and platforms of that kind are not eligible.

Independence

No platform pays for placement, and there are no affiliate links. A score is an opinion formed by our editors, and different players may weigh the criteria differently.

Ties

When two overall scores match, the higher Library mark goes first.
